What is a food buying club?
A food buying club is a private group of individuals who collectively purchase
groceries directly from any number of distributors. A buying club has the
advantage over an individual consumer because it may purchase goods at wholesale
(discounted) prices and pass the savings on to its members. A buying club
purchases and holds food on behalf of its members. It does not sell any goods.
For more information on how our buying club works, check out our
Handbook.
Are we competing with Dill Pickle Food CoOp?
No, absolutely not. In fact, many members of our buying club are also members
of Dill Pickle. Dill Pickle's mission is to create an actual grocery store that sells
to members and the general public (check out their website for further details).
The Logan Square Food Buying Club is and always will be a buying club. Both groups
do have one similair goal in mind: Logan Square access to less-expensive organic &
natural groceries.
What do I need to do for the Work Requirement?
Our buying club is entirely volunteer-driven. Therefore, we rely on our mandatory work
policy to ensure that the business keeps running smoothly. All members are expected to
work 1-2 hours per month. We have some permenant volunteer positions, some temporary
jobs, and a regular need for help on the receiving & breakdown team. Check our
Work page for an idea of the type of volunteer work that takes place
in our buying club. And if you have an idea for a new job, please feel free to suggest
it to our Volunteer Coordinator, Julie.
What does a membership cost?
You can purchase a membership on behalf of yourself or your
household for a non-refundable fee of $24 per year.
